Technical Writer, IT Consultant
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the design of the website’s information architecture, ensuring it supports intuitive navigation, accessibility, and ease of use for diverse citizen audiences
- Conduct content inventory and audits of existing county services and content
- Develop and document a taxonomy and service categorization model that reflects county departments, programs, and citizen needs
- Map legacy content and services from the old website to the new information architecture, identifying gaps, redundancies, and opportunities for consolidation
- Collaborate with content strategists, UX designers, and county stakeholders to validate and refine structures and service mappings
- Define metadata schemas and tagging strategies to enhance search and discoverability of county services and information
- Support the creation of wireframes, service directories, and navigation models as needed to visualize proposed structures
- Ensure the information architecture aligns with accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA), usability best practices, and government digital service standards
- Document governance recommendations for ongoing maintenance of the taxonomy and service categorization
- Proven experience as an Information Architect, Content Strategist, or related role on large-scale website or digital transformation projects
- Strong expertise in taxonomy design, metadata, classification systems, and content modeling
- Experience conducting content audits and mapping legacy content into new structures
- Familiarity with usability principles, accessibility standards, and citizen-centric design
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including designers, content strategists, developers, and government stakeholders
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- No specific CMS expertise required, but familiarity with how CMS platforms manage taxonomy and navigation is beneficial
- Experience working on public sector, government, or higher education websites
- Familiarity with U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) and related digital service guidelines
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
