Technical Writer, Web Developer
Responsibilities
The Worker is responsible for collaborating with ITS Leadership and the Agency Accessibility Coordinator to design and implement accessibility initiatives and projects in alignment with compliance with Federal, State, and agency procedures, policies, rules, and laws including DOJ ADA Title II. The role includes analyzing web content for accessibility, recommending changes to make content accessible, and remediating accessibility issues. The Worker participates in testing efforts of accessibility projects and EIR efforts and provides testing results to the agency Accessibility Coordinator and stakeholders in developing roadmaps, plans, and designs for accessibility activities.
The role also collaborates with Agency Accessibility Coordinator and agency content owners to conduct remediation work of EIR and to ensure accessibility compliance. The Worker enhances accessibility efforts by monitoring and tracking accessibility updates, communicating both internally and externally on continuous improvements. The role performs preliminary accessibility assessments with internal and external partners; testing, validation, and completes coordinating reports.
Skills and Qualifications
- 4 years required: Knowledge of Texas Administrative Code, Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) EIR Accessibility Policy, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA related to federal and state accessibility requirements
- 4 years required: Knowledge of industry best practices for accessibility services for digital content and Electronic Information Resources, such as brochures, flyers, webpages, documents, forms, and training materials
- 4 years required: Experience assessing web content and other EIR for compliance with accessibility standards and performing analysis for remediation
- 4 years required: Knowledge of EIR testing and validation practices and methodology to confirm compliance with accessibility standards
- 4 years required: Experience in identifying functional and technical requirements gathering, analysis and documentation with a strong attention to detail
- 3 years required: Experience with the Microsoft Suite of tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Project and SharePoint)
- 2 years required: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- 1 year preferred: Awareness or knowledge of DFPS systems and programs
