About the RoleWe are seeking a Staff Network Engineer (WAN) to design and operate a global network backbone connecting multiple data centers and GPU clusters. This role focuses on building high‑performance, secure, and reliable wide‑area networks (WANs) to support large‑scale data movement across regions. You will collaborate closely with compute, storage, infrastructure, and facility teams to ensure seamless, low‑latency connectivity across a global footprint.
Responsibilities- Design and operate global WAN infrastructure supporting hyperscale datacenter interconnects with high throughput and ultra‑low latency.
- Work with advanced optical transport technologies (DWDM, ROADM, coherent optics) and platforms like Ciena for large‑scale deployments.
- Own carrier relationships end‑to‑end: circuit procurement, contract negotiation, SLA enforcement, and escalation for multi‑terabit links.
- Continuously monitor and optimize routing, packet loss, jitter, and bandwidth utilization across global backbone.
- Coordinate fiber entries, cross‑connects, and demarcation points with ICT, facilities, and construction teams in high‑density environments.
- Develop capacity models and forecast bandwidth growth aligned to hyperscale deployment roadmaps.
- Drive automation‑first approach for configuration, provisioning, and telemetry using scripting and IaC tools (Python, Ansible, Terraform).
- Deploy and maintain site‑to‑site VPNs, private peering, and direct connects with cloud providers and hyperscalers.
- Implement redundancy, failover, and disaster recovery strategies for mission‑critical WAN services.
- Collaborate with infrastructure engineering, SREs, and software teams to support global network expansion and hyperscale scaling initiatives.
- 7+ years in network infrastructure engineering, with proven experience designing and operating global WANs for hyperscale datacenters.
- Deep knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), MPLS, IPsec VPNs, and traffic engineering at scale.
- Hands‑on experience with fiber optics, DWDM/ROADM transport, carrier peering, and multi‑terabit backbone links.
- Strong Linux networking and systems administration skills for automation and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with automation and orchestration tools (Ansible, Terraform) and DCIM platforms (Net Box, Nlyte) for inventory and change management.
- Familiarity with monitoring stacks (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK) and telemetry for large‑scale environments.
- Experience implementing redundancy, failover, and disaster recovery strategies for mission‑critical WAN services.
- Ability to manage multi‑site deployments across time zones, with strong documentation and change control discipline.
- Excellent communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration with SREs, infrastructure engineers, and software teams.
