ResponsibilitiesThe Database Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, administration, and performance of databases including SQL Server, Mongo
DB, and Postgre
SQL. Main responsibilities include:
- (40%) Coordinates the installation of database software and migrations, ensures migrations are tested and validated, provides triage support, and oversees database structure modifications.
- (30%) Plans and troubleshoots Postgre
SQL databases, ensuring security, performance, and data integrity; collaborates with developers and maintains documentation. - (10%) Makes requested changes/update to database structure and data to ensure security, integrity and availability; prepares regular reports.
- (10%) Maintains database backup and recovery infrastructure.
- (5%) Assists in developing strategic plans, budgeting, and reporting to management.
- (5%) Participates in disaster response or COOP activation, possibly requiring alternate shift patterns or location changes.
- A bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field, computer science or information technology is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator with at least one of: SQL, Microsoft Azure, Mongo
DB, Postgre
SQL. - 3 to 5 years of hands‑on work experience as a Database Administrator.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Willingness to work onsite at an Austin, TX HHS office three or more days per week.
- Knowledge of cloud database management, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS – SQL Server integration.
- Advanced skill with SQL Server administration functions.
- Skill with SQL performance tuning and optimization.
- Skill with SQL high availability and disaster recovery.
- Skill with SQL database security, scripting, automation, monitoring and alerting.
- Skilled with Postgre
SQL. - Skilled in Mongo
DB administration, replication, sharding, experience with enterprise‑level deployments. - Ability to complete performance tuning, high availability, large‑scale production environment monitoring and maintenance.
Certification in Mongo DB or Postgre
SQL preferred.
