GIS Analyst II, or III – TPP Division – Austin, TX (2503538)
TxDOT's Transportation Planning and Programming (TPP) Division is looking for a GIS Analyst based in Austin, TX, who is highly motivated, resourceful, and passionate about spatial data.
As a GIS Analyst in TPP you will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance of roadway data in the division's geospatial roadway inventory database, as well as providing solutions to improve processes and develop products to assist with daily workflows. The ideal candidate will have developed applications using ESRI's JavaScript API, used Python and/or FME to create spatial data processes, and have experience with Oracle databases;
having experience with linear referencing is a plus.
- GIS Analyst II (B20): $65,000 – $70,000
- GIS Analyst III (B22): $70,000 – $75,000

- Utilizes ArcGIS Online to create and maintain feature services and web mapping applications
- Reviews geographic data from various sources, including other state agencies, aerial imagery, existing maps, and databases
- Creates, maintains and updates GIS databases and cartographic products using the ESRI suite of ArcGIS software
- Develops and maintains links between attributes and other databases
- Follows documented workflows, standard operating procedures and best practices to consistently produce high‑quality data with minimal errors or corrections
- Uses linear referencing to update and maintain the roadway network and attributes
- Researches new software and/or techniques for improving performance or processes
- Represents the organization at meetings and other forums
- Creates and updates documentation including standard operating procedures, project plans, wiki pages, metadata, etc.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
- Performs advanced geographic information systems (GIS) data development, integration and analysis, produces maps and graphics, and extracts, analyzes and reports data
- Provides technical assistance and support of transportation activities or projects
- Requires contact with governmental agencies
- Establishes own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives; issues are rarely referred to the supervisor and are handled on the occurrence

- May serve as lead worker or project leader
- Assists with administering SDEs, ArcGIS Online accounts, Git Hub, and other accounts
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems or related field
- Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year‑per‑year basis; related graduate level education may also be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis
Experience:
- 1 year using ESRI products in cartographic production, GIS or GPS analysis
- Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent
Licenses and
Certifications:
Valid driver’s license; position requires driving a state vehicle
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems or related field
- Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year‑per‑year basis; related graduate level education may also be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis
Experience:
