Job Title: Cybersecurity Engineer
Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid – must already reside in the Austin, TX area)
Position Type: 12-18 month Contract
Our client is a leader in government security, dedicated to delivering cutting-edge solutions and exceptional service to their customers. We are seeking a skilled and proactive Cybersecurity Engineer to join this elite team. In this role, you will be responsible for safeguarding the organization's IT infrastructure and data from security threats. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain security solutions that protect their systems and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, CISM, CISA) are a plus.
- 8+ years of experience in cybersecurity or a related field, with a strong understanding of security technologies and best practices.
- Experience with cloud security (e.g., AWS, Azure) and emerging technologies.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS) and NIST cybersecurity framework.
- Proficiency in security tools (e.g., SIEM, IDS/IPS), firewalls, VPNs, and vulnerability management.
- Knowledge of operating systems, network protocols, and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex security issues and develop effective solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing security risks.
- Threat Detection and Response: Monitor network traffic and system activities to identify and respond to potential security threats and vulnerabilities.
- Security Architecture: Design and implement security architecture and solutions, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption technologies, in alignment with NIST standards.
- Incident Management: Lead and manage the response to security incidents, including investigation, containment, eradication, and recovery following NIST guidelines.
- Vulnerability Management: Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability scans to identify and mitigate potential risks, adhering to NIST vulnerability management practices.
- Policy Development: Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure data integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaboration: Work with IT and development teams to integrate security practices into the software development lifecycle and IT operations.
- Training and Awareness: Provide cybersecurity training and guidance to employees to promote security awareness and best practices.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of security systems, incidents, and procedures.
