NOC Engineer

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Remote Operations Engineer (NOC) to support the day-to-day IT operations of a leading Australian Managed Service Provider (MSP).

This role focuses on backup monitoring and verification, patch remediation, and recurring infrastructure health checks across multiple client environments. You will be responsible for identifying operational issues, performing approved remediation activities, maintaining accurate ticket documentation, and escalating incidents when necessary.

The ideal candidate is a proactive IT professional with hands-on experience in Veeam, Azure Backup, Datto RMM, and Windows Server environments who can work independently while following established operational procedures.

You will be working with an established Australian Managed Service Provider (MSP) delivering comprehensive IT infrastructure management, backup and recovery, remote monitoring, and technical support services to a diverse portfolio of businesses.

Backup & Recovery Expertise

• Hands-on experience with Veeam Backup & Replication, including backup monitoring, file-level recovery, repository management, and capacity checks.

• Practical knowledge of Azure Backup, Recovery Services vaults, and file recovery from restore points.

• Experience reviewing backup histories, identifying failures, validating backup integrity, and performing test restores.

• Familiarity with Datto BCDR and SaaS Protection platforms.

Remote Monitoring & Patch Management

• Proven experience using Datto RMM for endpoint monitoring, patch deployment, compliance verification, and remediation.

• Ability to investigate failed Windows updates, troubleshoot patching issues, and verify successful remediation.

• Understanding of Windows Server and workstation administration, including troubleshooting system updates and reboot-related issues.

• Basic Power Shell scripting knowledge would be advantageous.

Operational & Documentation Skills

• Experience working within an MSP or structured IT operations environment.

• Strong understanding of ticketing systems, technical documentation, and checklist-driven processes.

• Ability to maintain accurate records, capture supporting screenshots, and document remediation outcomes.

• Clear written English communication skills with the ability to produce concise technical updates.

• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and sound judgment regarding incident escalation.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following established operational and security procedures.

Security & Compliance Awareness

• Understanding of multi-factor authentication, least-privilege access, and secure remote administration.

• Awareness of data protection requirements and appropriate handling of confidential client information.

• Ability to follow approved change management procedures and maintain secure access practices.

Backup Monitoring & Verification

• Perform recurring backup health checks across multiple client environments using Veeam, Azure Backup, and Datto solutions.

• Review backup job histories, investigate warning indicators, and identify failed or incomplete backup operations.

• Monitor backup repository capacity, recovery points, and offsite storage availability.

• Conduct file-level test restores from local and offsite backups to verify recoverability.

• Perform Azure Backup recovery tests using available recovery points, ensuring temporary recovery resources are appropriately removed afterward.

• Review backup configurations to confirm required servers, resources, and workloads remain protected.

• Carry out backup solution reviews and maintain accurate backup documentation.

• Monitor Datto BCDR and SaaS Protection consoles, recording and escalating identified issues.

• Complete additional backup verification activities, including chain integrity checks, where required by documented procedures.

Patch Remediation & Endpoint Management

• Review automated patch compliance tickets generated through Datto RMM.

• Investigate patching failures and confirm reported issues on the affected devices.
