Immigration Attorney - Entry Level

About the Office

Our office handles most areas of immigration law, with a particular focus on removal defense, asylum law, federal litigation, family immigration, and humanitarian benefits. We’re a small but growing team, working to efficiently provide excellent services to hundreds of clients every year.

Position Requirements

This position requires an experienced immigration attorney with the following qualifications:

• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish and English at a professional level
• At least two years of experience working as an attorney on immigration matters
• Experience with asylum, family-based immigration, and humanitarian immigration matters
• Bar admission and eligibility to practice immigration law

Attorney Duties

The immigration attorney is responsible for working independently, but with support and supervision, to complete consultations, represent clients in immigration court, and prepare forms and applications for relief with USCIS and the immigration courts. The typical day might include appearing at an immigration court hearing by video, phone calls with clients, new consultations, and case review or preparation.

The attorney's schedule is from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. The attorney will manage a docket of cases from consultation to closing, and the exact hours required will vary accordingly. While some days might consist of light office work, others may require longer than eight hours. The goal is to maintain a manageable schedule, averaging 40 hours a week.

Some work can be completed remotely, but this position requires the attorney to be local and in the office regularly.

Additional Qualifications

• Travel is required for attendance at USCIS interviews and immigration court hearings when it is not possible to attend remotely
• A strong aptitude for technology and navigating software, including databases, email, VoIP phone software, form completion software, and other tools
• An openness to handling all aspects of a case, including administrative tasks if deadlines or other demands require it
• A customer service mentality to help clients as much as possible and to address their needs with empathy
• Maintaining databases of client information and keeping detailed records, tracking deadlines, making notes, and completing tasks
• Regular review of new developments in immigration law
