The Role

The AMD Law Department is seeking a skilled patent litigation counsel to join our growing legal team. This role will focus on supporting and managing offensive or defensive patent litigation matters in the U.S. and internationally. The ideal candidate will bring solid litigation experience, preferably within the semiconductor or broader high‑tech industry, and possess the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with legal, engineering, and business teams.

You will help protect and enforce the company’s intellectual property assets, mitigate legal risk, and support strategic litigation efforts aligned with our business and innovation goals.

The Person
  • Strong communicator with ability to simplify complex legal concepts.
  • Practical problem‑solver with a collaborative, solution‑oriented mindset.
  • Independent, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Confident in making sound judgments and escalating when appropriate.
  • Curious, adaptable, and eager to engage with emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support offensive and defensive patent litigation matters in U.S. federal courts and, where applicable, foreign jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel on litigation strategy, discovery, motion practice, expert development, and trial preparation.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to collect relevant evidence and data, assess legal risk, and manage responses to legal actions.
  • Prepare and review claim charts for infringement and invalidity positions in partnership with technical teams.
  • Drive early dispute resolution efforts while maintaining readiness to elevate matters offensively or defensively.
  • Analyze and respond to indemnity requests, patent assertion letters and NPE demands, developing strong invalidity and non‑infringement positions to defend against third‑party claims and support counter‑claims or offensive litigation.
  • Coordinate internal technical reviews and work with IP and engineering teams to identify and pursue opportunities for enforcing the company’s intellectual property rights.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience focused on patent litigation, including responsibility for managing or supporting cases.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. patent law, and experience preparing or reviewing claim charts for infringement and/or invalidity.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Combination of law firm and in‑house experience at a technology or semiconductor company.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
Academic Credentials
  • JD degree and admission to practice law in a U.S. state.
  • Technical degree (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field).
