Job Title DPS - RSD - Team Lead Special Assignments Unit - 1355
Must reside within 50-miles of assigned duty station in one of the following locations:Austin, San Antonio, Garland, or Houston.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Performs advanced (senior-level) investigative work. Performs responsible investigative duties of regulated industry in a designated geographic area of the State of Texas. Serves as Team Lead in the Special Assignments Unit (SAU). Work involves providing support to assigned team in resolving escalated matters and serving as a subject matter expert in addition to the day-to-day of planning, organizing, and conducting investigations of suspected violations in accordance with standard investigative methods, departmental policy and state laws.
Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
1. Serves as the designated team lead and subject matter expert for the assigned program area. Ensures compliance with administrative codes, state statutes, and agency policies and procedures. Trains and provides guidance to the team members regarding their assigned duties and responsibilities. Provides on-the-job or remedial training for staff as needed.
2. Serves as the initial point of contact for staff to reach out to for support with escalated and advanced programmatic, and/or technical assistance needs related to the investigative process in addition to performing the day-to-day operations and duties of the assigned program area.
3. Oversees and conducts comprehensive investigations/inspections of regulated businesses and individuals to ensure program compliance. Provides guidance to team members on the more complex investigations that may be assigned.
4. Coordinates the collection and analysis of evidence and data through field investigations, audits, inspections, or studies. Evaluates and summarizes investigative findings and submits comprehensive reports and documents.
5. Forwards and receives investigative referrals to and from commissioned personnel to be considered for criminal/administrative investigation.
6. Oversees and/or examines, investigates, and analyzes the business activities of entities to ensure compliance with statutory standards and regulations.
7. Assists with developing policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials related to assigned programs. Monitors performance of the section and work product of employees in assigned program area. May assist in the collection and computation of production totals.
8. Travels as necessary to conduct investigations/inspections of regulated business and individuals. Contacts and interviews witnesses and complainants.
9. Works with the Office of Regulatory Counsel to review and research legal aspects of investigations and recommends action as appropriate.
10. Establishes and maintains liaison and subject matter expertise with local, state and federal law enforcement officials, regulatory agencies and businesses and individuals.
11. Assists with the daily oversight and operations of the team in the manager's absence.
12. May assist with on-going development, implementation, and instruction of training programs for department personnel and other law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
13. May perform undercover or surveillance work regarding suspected violators.
14. May testify and present evidence in formal hearings or court proceedings.
15. May train, plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
16. Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:Education - High School Diploma/equivalent required. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree with Major or coursework emphasis in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or other related field preferred.
