Payroll Services at The University of Texas at Austin is responsible for producing and distributing payroll for approximately 29,000 employees. Purpose

Provide leadership to Payroll Services in coordination with the Director and other payroll leaders by managing and supervising staff to ensure quality service to the university and develop direct reports. This includes:

  • Encouraging participation in development opportunities
  • Hiring, training, and providing feedback related to performance
  • Recognizing successes and achievements
  • Assigning workload and conveying the importance of individual responsibility and accountability
  • Setting standards in terms of professionalism and dedication
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Payment Team to ensure timely and accurate employee payments and quality service to the university; provide direction and oversight for team responsibilities.
  • Provide direction and oversight to the Financials Team within Payroll Services to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures and state and federal laws and regulations; oversee payroll‑related banking activities and ensure payroll‑related accounting activities are accurate and timely.
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies and business processes to support the unit’s activities and to enhance and maintain the effectiveness of unit operations; support long‑term strategic initiatives to improve efficiency and support departmental goals.
  • Work collaboratively with functional and technical staff within payroll and across university operational units to identify, test, and implement enhancements to existing processes and systems; oversee project implementation, provide training, and communicate information to the university community.
  • Communicate and disseminate payroll policies and procedures to internal and external staff, administrative leadership and campus leaders using a variety of communication strategies including presentations, reports, electronic correspondence and web content.
  • Other related functions as assigned. Overtime expected during peak processing periods.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in payroll, accounting, or human resources.
