Lab Technician, Cathode Lab

Tesla is looking to hire a Quality Control Technician with experience working in an analytical lab. The candidate will be a core member of the Cathode Quality team focused on testing and evaluating cathode materials to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. The role supports a 24/7 operation and requires working on DuPont scheduled shifts.

What To Expect

The position involves working in a fast-paced lab environment, driving safety and EHS compliance, and contributing to continuous improvement.

What You'll Do
  • Inspect and test cathode active materials and raw materials, and release from the QC lab.
  • Drive the safety motto of the QC lab with zero spill, full EHS compliance, and zero LTI mindset.
  • Plan, procure, organise, and run test equipment following SOP and 5S principles.
  • Conduct chemical, physical, and electrochemical characterisation using SEM, ICP‑OES, Tap Density, PSA, XRD, coin cell, etc.
  • Document data in the quality database, ensuring high accuracy and precision.
  • Introduce new ideas to increase productivity, reduce cost, and minimise waste.
  • Support team members with in‑house troubleshooting of QC lab equipment.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 1–2 years of hands‑on analytical experience in metallurgy, inorganic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, or materials science.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with advanced analytical techniques common to materials characterization.
  • Strong organisational, data management, and communication skills.
  • Strong sense of safety; able to work independently or with others.
  • Command of the English language, both written and verbal.
Essential Physical Demands
  • Stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in a fast‑paced, noisy environment.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in varying temperatures.
  • Climb, bend, stoop, and kneel as needed.
