Summary

As part of the KIDS team at The Austin Stone Community Church, the KIDS Ministry Lead (KML) will be responsible for leading and implementing ministry within the congregation. The role includes ministerial and administrative tasks, Sunday execution, relationship development, congregation‑wide events, and budget management. The KML reports to the Family Ministry Director.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Ensure the faithful execution of curriculum, Sunday ministry, policies, childcare, and volunteer screening in accordance with church safety policies.
  • Recruit and lead volunteer teams for Sunday Kids ministry programming.
  • Support equipping efforts, ongoing spiritual formation, and pastoral care of volunteers.
  • Oversee weekly supply ordering and on‑site storage of materials.
  • Develop parent relationships and facilitate regular, effective communication with parents about programs, teaching, resources, and the promotion of the Kids Ministry to the congregation.
  • Collaborate with congregation leadership and provide timely and effective communication.
  • Support Central Kids ministry events and strategies in collaboration with other Kids Ministry staff at other congregations.
  • Maintain records and steward the allotted ministry budget.
  • Support the elders and CP/CXP in the pastoral care of families.
  • Assess and report on ministry effectiveness and make improvements as needed.
  • Support learning environments on relevant topics for parent discipleship and guide parents through childhood milestones such as Parent/Child Dedication, baptisms, and the transition out of Kids ministry.
  • Attend and participate in all required events and activities for The Austin Stone, including Sunday services (including major holidays), staff meetings, prayer meetings, special events, Central Kids Ministry events, continuing education events, and training opportunities.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required;
    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in leading youth ministry or a related field.
  • Previous experience shepherding students and parents in the gospel.
  • Experience leading a volunteer team of more than 20 people (preferred).

  • Administration: Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement ministry programming; integrate multiple perspectives into cohesive plans; manage a ministry budget.
  • Communication: Clarity of speech and proper use of grammar; inspire, instruct, and encourage through effective communication; engage, interact with, teach, equip, and train students in large group settings.
  • Detail Oriented & Organizational

    Skills:

    Proven skills in creating, implementing, maintaining, and following through on processes that ensure people are engaged, cared for, informed, and connected; coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Leadership Development: Skilled at multiplying effective ministry leaders; lead, recruit, resource, and mobilize volunteer teams; develop new and better ways to work and promote continuous improvement.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Complementary leadership skills in relation to the rest of the congregation staff; integrate multiple perspectives; learn, improve, and enforce student safety policies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to physically navigate a multi‑level campus facility.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as a computer keyboard, mouse, and similar machines.
