Position

Summary

Communities In Schools of Central Texas is seeking a qualified Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator (known as a Smart Kids Coordinator) in Austin, TX to provide case management and student support services and provide after‑school programming to students at Zavala Elementary School and living in the nearby public housing community.

What You’ll Do
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver on‑site service‑learning programs, enrichment activities, recreational activities, family events, special events and occasional field trips for students living in public housing
  • Provide school‑based case management for designated students
  • Coordinate the on‑site service delivery team of Ameri Corps members, interns and volunteers
  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with campus CIS staff, housing authority personnel and other involved parties
  • Communicate and coordinate with community partners as appropriate
  • Prepare and submit regular and timely reports as required by funders, supervisor or Program Director
  • Participate in the CIS team approach to service delivery and problem‑solving
  • Promote and maintain CIS culture, standards, and systems
Work Hours

Smart Kids Coordinator will be working at Zavala ES and Chalmers Courts Housing site, leading the Smart Kids after school program. Hours are 8:30 – 4:30, 9:30 – 5:30 PM OR 10:00 – 6:00 during daylight savings.

Additional Responsibilities

The Smart Kids Coordinator will also perform other activities and duties as directed by the Program Director, Sr. Program Director, Regional Directors of Programs, or Chief Executive Officer.

What You Bring
  • At a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience working with youth in a school‑based setting or planning and facilitating after‑school activities
  • Experience working with parents and families, direct service delivery, and collaborating with community agencies
  • Experience with crisis intervention, assessments, referrals, and supportive guidance
  • Access to reliable transportation is required
  • Current CPR certification preferred
  • English/Spanish speaking ability is strongly preferred
  • A bachelor's degree in social work, human services or related field. A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience working directly with youth living in public housing communities may substitute for a degree
