The Sunday Teams Lead (STL) will be responsible to deliver a high quality, engaging, and safe experience for Sunday worshippers each week, while making disciples of Jesus Christ through leadership and volunteer opportunities within Sunday Teams. The STL will equip and mobilize volunteer leaders and partners to carry out the Sunday environment with excellence. The STL reports to the Congregation Executive Pastor (CXP) for development, performance and oversight.
- Ensure the strategies for Sunday Teams are implemented at the congregation, in alignment with the vision and ministry strategies developed by the congregation staff team.
- Foster a safe and welcoming worship environment by ensuring policies are followed by staff, volunteers, and security officers; maintain Sunday environment excellence in alignment with congregational ministries (creative, worship, preaching).
- Recruit, develop, equip, and resource Sunday Teams leaders and volunteers, and assign ownership to further their discipleship as followers of Jesus.
- Problem-solve potential facility challenges and maintain a healthy relationship with facility and City of Austin event contacts.
- Create and maintain a Sunday staff work schedule that is clear and sustainable; training and assigning roles in advance, and leading the plan each Sunday.
- Support the elders and CP/CXP in the shepherding and pastoral care of Sunday Teams volunteers and regular attenders.
- Assess and report on ministry effectiveness and make improvements as needed.
- Maintain records and steward the allotted ministry budget.
- Required to work most Sundays during the year, including major holiday weekends (e.g. Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Easter, Memorial Day, etc.).
- Attend, serve, and lead at all required events and activities for The Austin Stone, including all Sunday services, staff meetings, prayer meetings, special events, retreats and staff development days.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 1 years of experience discipling others into mature followers of Jesus
- Experience stewarding budgets and managing safety initiatives
- Experience leading volunteer teams of more than 20 people, preferred
- Knowledge of ASCC programs and hospitality services, preferred.
In order to lead effectively at The Austin Stone, a Sunday Teams Lead must have the following competencies:
Administration - Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement ministry programming. Integrate multiple perspectives and synthesize them into a cohesive plan. Strong ability to support multiple projects simultaneously, with dependability and excellence. Understanding of The Austin Stone's ministry strategy and competency in application of strategies in equipping and mobilization. Able to manage a ministry budget.
Communication - Has clarity of speech and proper use of grammar. Demonstrated capacity to inspire, instruct, and encourage through effective communication in various settings. Able to communicate and work within a complex organizational structure with multiple layers of input.
Collaborative Leadership - Strong complementary leadership skills in relation to the rest of the congregation staff team and an ability to lead in concert with other leaders. Ability to integrate multiple perspectives and synthesize them into a cohesive plan. Collaborate across the organization and with various ministry partners.
Process Oriented & Organizational Skills - Proven skills in creating, implementing, maintaining, and following through on processes that ensure people are engaged, cared for, informed and connected. Able to create and manage a ministry budget. Able to successfully develop new and better ways to work and promote a continuous improvement mentality.
Leadership Development - Ability to lead, recruit, resource, and mobilize volunteer teams to scale. Skilled at multiplying effective ministry leaders who can communicate and uphold the values of The Austin Stone. Able to lead a motivated and diverse group of people by establishing a clear vision for the team, training and developing talent, providing feedback and ensuring the proper learning for each team member.
