The Better Builder Coordinator leads the monitoring, oversight and certification conducted by Workers Defense for the program around the state. This position also helps Workers Defense activate its base of members to improve job quality standards for workers in Texas.

• You are excited about engaging in strategic campaigns to organize working & immigrant communities.
• You have strong communication skills that allow you to build relationships and foster cooperation with a diverse array of community and industry stakeholders including construction workers, construction industry representatives, elected officials and our members.
• You have experience in the construction industry and organizing.

• Observe Better Builder® accredited worksite monitoring on Better Builder® sites, evaluate worker interviews, and assess workplace conditions
• Provide technical assistance and on-site support to third-party and public entities’ accredited monitors
• Organize and lead accreditation trainings for new Better Builder® monitors
• Prepare regular reports in accordance with the Better Builder® Program’s procedures
• Lead or support meetings with allies and entities to ensure the proper implementation of Better Builder® Program
• Member Engagement
  • Grow the membership base
  • Engage community in a variety of events that showcase the organization’s campaign work and mission
  • Develop member leaders in your city by fostering the analysis, knowledge, and skills necessary to participate effectively in campaign and organizing work
  • Participate in leadership class trainings
  • Conduct workshops about campaigns and education of work as needed by membership
  • Support with Know Your Rights Presentations
  • Support with or lead member committees or work groups
  • Engage members in the work of the Better Builder® Department to improve standards for construction workers in Texas through Better Builder® work groups or other member committees
  • Other training for members and support as needed
• Fully engage in campaigns to expand the Better Builder® Program including:
  • Creating and executing campaign plans
  • Engaging members in the work
  • Engaging elected officials and allies
  • Planning and executing actions, meetings or other activities
  • Assist statewide and local efforts to implement Better Builder® policies in surrounding areas
• Administrative
  • Work alongside the Better Builder® Director to develop operational processes for various aspects of the program
  • Prepare all invoices relating to monitoring fees
  • Support program presentations to partner institutions, funders and the public as needed
  • Complete administrative functions including evaluations, plans, timesheets, etc.
  • Support cross-programmatic campaigns, actions, events and meetings
  • Assist with grassroots fundraising efforts
  • Participate in organization-wide activities as necessary to carry out the work of Workers Defense

• Fluent in English and Spanish
• Ability to work irregular hours (evenings and weekends)
• Excellent written and oral communication
• Basic computer literacy (PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, slack & Internet)
• Ability to work independently and juggle multiple responsibilities
• Ability and flexibility for some out of state travel and instate travel
