Nurse Clinician III (RN) – Casual Appointment – Travis Unit
The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
Job SummaryCompetent clinician to provide direct nursing care to an assigned group of patients and possess knowledge and skill to meet standards for competent professional nursing practice as specified in the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Competently functions as a member of an interdisciplinary care team focused and patient centered. Manages unexpected or emergency situations that are commonly seen in the assigned specialty population.
Serves as a resource for other nursing staff.
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document daily care of assigned patients.
- Identify patient's care needs, formulate nursing diagnoses, develop individualized care plans, and revise plans as needed.
- Execute physician orders for all assigned patients: administer medications and treatments and deliver culturally congruent nursing care in accordance with UTMB, TDCJ, and/or TJJD policies, procedures, and standards.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures/skills in the assigned specialty area.
- Plan, coordinate, and prioritize patient care activities according to skill level and work complexity.
- Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure established for the department.
- Perform related duties as required.
Standard patient care supplies, equipment, and mechanical devices.
Work EnvironmentLocated within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center. Security clearance and pre‑employment drug testing are required.
Required Education/Experience- Registered Nurse (RN) with at least two (2) years of clinical RN experience.
- Maintain a current license or valid permit to practice in Texas.
- Current BLS‑HP required.
This is an open‑pooled position. Education and experience will be considered and the position may be filled at a lower or higher level, as appropriate. Applicants with less than two (2) years of experience will be considered for a Nurse Clinician II or Nurse Clinician I position.
This is a non‑benefit eligible position limited to a maximum of 19 hours per week.
