Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) to join our team at the Central Austin location (6204 Balcones Austin, Texas 78731). This is a full‑time Monday‑Friday 8:30 am‑5:00 pm position with no weekend, call, or major holiday shifts. The role may be level 1, 2, or Sr based on experience.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Provides general nursing care to patients.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Assists with preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.
  • Observes, records, and reports patients’ condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Administers prescribed medications as directed.
  • Screen patients for appropriate information; instruct patients in collection of specimen samples for testing.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls; instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Performs EKG and oxymetry readings as required by physician.
  • Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
  • Maintains patient files, records and other information.
  • Initiates IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act.
Qualifications

Level 1:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.
  • 0–3 years experience as a practical nurse.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.

Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 requirements):

  • At least 3 years experience as a practical nurse.

Level Sr (in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements):

  • Minimum of five years experience as a practical nurse in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Current CPR certification required.
Physical Demands

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Work Environment

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
