THIS POSITION IS AUSTIN-BASED.

DEFINITION: Performs consultative and administrative work for the Board of Nursing. Works under the direction of the Director of Nursing and Lead Practice Consultant to: assist with the operations of all APRN processes including the application process for advanced practice registered nurses; assist in interpreting applicable laws and rules to the public, nurses, and educators; develop, implement, and evaluate rules, policies, and procedures related to advanced practice registered nurses;

assist with the accreditation of both basic and advanced practice educational programs; participate as a speaker in workshops; and serve as liaison to professional organizations and groups with interests in advanced practice nursing and education. Works under minimum supervision with latitude for use of initiative and judgment.

RESPONSIBILITY TO THE AGENCY

Assists the Director of Nursing with establishing a culture of teamwork, collaboration and support within the Nursing Department. Contributes to agency goals and objectives and adheres to agency ethics and personnel policies.

FUNCTIONS
  • Contributes to all aspects of the Nursing Department under the general direction of the Director of Nursing and Lead Consultant. Contributes the work of the Nursing Department to promote quality improvement in daily operations.
  • Participates in the process for review and approval of applicants for advanced practice registered nursing licensure, evaluation of academic courses and limited prescriptive authority in collaboration with other APRN consultants and staff.
  • Confer and correspond with individuals and groups regarding the interpretation of the Nursing Practice Act, the Board rules and regulations, as well as other Federal and State laws, rules, or regulations, as they apply to advanced practice, vocational nursing practice, professional registered nursing practice, and nursing education.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Board policies, procedures, objectives, and strategic plan, particularly as they apply to advanced nursing practice and education.
  • Consult with and assist investigations staff regarding complaints or investigations; provide expert testimony.
  • Participate with inter/intra agency and extended committees or task forces to represent the Board, provide consultation, and prepare reports for the Board.
  • Assist with evaluation of continuing education documentation to determine compliance with advanced practice rules.
  • Staff the advanced practice advisory committee and other committees as assigned.
  • Participate as a speaker at Board sponsored workshops.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by the Director of Nursing including special projects and/or reports to the Board.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must be willing to travel within the State of Texas.
  • Refer to personnel policies for other conditions of employment.
