Responsibilities

The Staff Licensed Vocational Nurse renders professional nursing care pursuant to the objective and policies of the Centre. Work is full-time during the weekdays with some overtime and on‑call work required. Work is performed at the clinic with some work in the community and residential site. A staff LVN will work directly under the supervision of the Nursing Department Coordinator or staff RN’s but utilize all nursing skills to make safe, appropriate and independent decisions within the scope of the LVN nursing practice.

This position is full time at the clinic and residential site. Shift is 10 : 00am-7 : 00pm

Your key responsibilities will include :

  • Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well‑being of the patient.
  • Conducts visits at residential site to assess patient’s medical status, administer or supervise medication and perform treatment procedures. Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping and repeated stair climbing.
  • Provides for the safety of patients, visitors, staff and self when interacting with patients who may have behavioral outbursts, which can include yelling, exiting, hitting, kicking, biting, spitting, scratching, and throwing objects.
  • Performs toilet and chair transfers with assistance for patients up to pounds utilizing approved transfer techniques. Transfer techniques include standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling. Patients requiring moderate to maximum assistance are lifted and / or transferred by two or more persons.
  • Uses special equipment as required by each patient including, but not limited to wheelchairs, tracheostomy tubes, gastric feeding tubes, and external catheters, at any given time according to the outline of each patient’s program. May require fine motor manipulation, lifting, reaching, carrying, pushing and pulling when working with equipment.
  • Independently inventories routine supplies and discusses needs with nursing staff. Will then take initiative to order supplies needed by the nursing department in appropriate quantities. Maintains adequate medical supplies in the clinic Nursing Department. Requires lifting, carrying, and handling boxes weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires visual acuity and fine motor coordination to count, identify and put away supplies.
  • Coordinates and attends medical appointments requiring transporting patients in company or personal vehicle. Requires ability to drive vehicle and transfer patients using approved methods.
Qualifications

Successful candidates will have :

  • Passion for Care : A deep understanding of the requirements for providing the type of care and supervision needed, including the ability to communicate effectively with them.
  • Leadership Skills :
    The ability to recruit, employ, train, and evaluate qualified staff, and to make tough decisions when necessary.
Experience and Education
  • Educational Background :
    Current / clear Texas LVN licensure required. Blood Draw and IV certifications preferred.
  • Specialized Knowledge :
    Successful completion of drug screen, health screen, including TB clearance, and criminal history clearance. Valid driver’s license required.
