This position is a full-time Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm position with no weekends, call, or major holidays. It can be a level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience. Under minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. The RN demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental differences across age groups, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, and supports the US Oncology Compliance Program.
Responsibilities- Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
- Assess health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history.
- Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and instructional material.
- Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
- Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
- Administer all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique.
- Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management.
- Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports and maintain central lines catheter devices.
- Facilitate clinical operations and patient care.
- Manage patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and record the information in the patient chart.
- Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient's chart.
- Assist patients in locating available community resources.
- Level 1
- Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
- RN state license and current registration with the state board of nursing in the practicing state.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- 0-3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one as an oncology RN.
- Experience with thoracic surgery preferred.
- Oncology certification preferred.
- Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 requirements)
- 3-5 years nursing experience, preferably at least one as an oncology RN.
- Level Sr (in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements)
- Five years nursing experience, preferably at least one as an oncology RN.
The work environment includes potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common in an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
Physical RequirementsRequires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, standing and walking for extensive periods, occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs, and corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
