Congenital Syphilis Nurse II (PM)
Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is seeking a compassionate, dedicated Nurse II to support the Congenital Syphilis Prevention Hotline. The position will provide consultation and guidance to healthcare providers regarding congenital syphilis questions, diagnosis, and care.
Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Congenital Syphilis Operations Director I, the Nurse II will perform complex nursing work at a journey‑level, supporting the Congenital Syphilis Prevention Hotline. Responsibilities include responding to provider inquiries, offering evidence‑based recommendations, coordinating follow‑up, developing policies, and participating in program communications.
Responsibilities- Respond to inquiries from physicians, nurses, hospital staff, and other healthcare professionals through the hotline.
- Offer evidence‑based recommendations and clarifications on syphilis and congenital syphilis management, treatment protocols, and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with regional congenital syphilis nurses to ensure appropriate follow‑up on specific cases.
- Assist with the development and modification of policies, procedures, and protocols related to congenital syphilis prevention and care.
- Participate in the creation and delivery of written and verbal program communications and educational materials for healthcare providers and stakeholders.
- Support program enhancements aimed at improving efficiency and service evaluation.
- Attend consultant meetings, educational workshops, and symposiums relevant to congenital syphilis prevention and treatment.
- Perform “On Call” duties during holidays and weekends on a rotating basis.
Registered Nurse in the State of Texas or in a state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; medical diagnoses and treatment programs; community health principles.
- Knowledge of health care laws and regulations.
- Medical knowledge of Syphilis, Congenital Syphilis, and other STIs and their treatments.
- Knowledge of statistical data collection methods and medical care resources in Texas.
- Skill in using electronic medical record systems, the Internet, and Microsoft Office software.
- Strong oral and written communication, problem‑solving, and consultation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects.
- Ability to develop educational materials and compile data for statistical reports.
- Ability to handle confidential issues and material in compliance with state and federal laws.
- At least 1 year experience in management of acquired syphilis.
- At least 1 year experience communicating program policy, procedures and medical reports via telephone.
- At least 1 year experience handling confidential issues and materials, including medical records in compliance with state and federal laws such as HIPAA.
- At least 1 year experience using computer systems and/or databases, and Microsoft Word and Excel.

Hours of Operation- Regular
Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM – EVENINGS - Lunch Break: 30 minutes
- Additional Requirement:
May be required to work alternate weekends on a rotating schedule.
