The Director of Nursing (DON) is an integral member of the management team of their community, contributing health care leadership and expertise to promote an environment of optimal living for residents. The DON will plan, organize, and direct the overall operation of clinical services in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and guidelines to foster the highest degree of quality care. He/she will comply will all local, state, and federal regulations and focus on employee and resident safety.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership Excellence: Maintain, manage, and inspire a full team through recruiting, interviewing, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Resident-Centric Care: Perform comprehensive assessments, coordinate individualized care plans, and provide empathetic, personalized care.

    Liaise seamlessly with internal staff, third-party vendors, and medical professionals.
  • Quality Assurance: Lead staff meetings, manage service agreements, update physician order sheets, and assure compliance with healthcare protocols.
  • Continuous Oversight: Ensure proper medication management, complete timely audits, handle incident reporting, and conduct investigations.
  • Emergency Response: Assist community during emergencies.
Skills & Competencies

Industry Experience
  • Five years’ previous management experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of standards of care and practices applicable to the delivery of geriatric services, complex medical conditions, multiple medical diagnoses, including preventive measures, rehabilitation, and promoting independence.
  • Experience in geriatric nursing or gerontology, including education in the aging process, memory decline and related behavior management highly preferred.
  • Expertise in most up-to-date safety and infection control practices.
  • Experience building and leading effective nursing teams including hiring, training and development.

Education
  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
  • LVN, LPN or Registered Nurse with a current license in good standing. RN preferred.
  • Five to seven years’ experience in a senior care environment preferred.
