Job Description & How to Apply Below

Cancer Navigator is an early-stage healthcare company (remote, headquartered in Washington, D.C.) dedicated to supporting cancer patients in their hour of need.

Our Mission & Our Work, in Brief

Cancer is the number one cause of death for commercially insured Americans and the top cost driver for health plans. And, cancer patients are struggling.

Cancer Navigator is a white-glove, end-to-end, cancer support service for patients and their families. We work with health plans across the country to provide 1-1 support to members facing a cancer diagnosis. All of our support is delivered through dedicated Oncology Certified Nurses, who work with members to catch cancer early, get them to fantastic experts for their care, and help them through the thousands of other problems patients and their families face.

Join us to help serve cancer patients in their hour of need.

The “Nurse Navigator” Role

Our oncology nurse navigators are the front-line of Cancer Navigator’s patient service. Nurse Navigators support patients at all parts of their journey – newly diagnosed, in active treatment, and entering remission. With more specificity, oncology nurse navigators:

  • Educate cancer patients (and their families) about their diagnosis, treatment options, and provide helpful information on any related questions and concerns the patient may have
  • Work closely with the researchers on our team to deliver tailored information to patients, guiding them to the centers and doctors that would be a great option for the patient’s care
  • Do everything possible to address any barriers to care (e.g. registering and scheduling appointments, coordinating with their health plan or their care team, transferring records, etc.)
  • Provide longitudinal support to the patient throughout their journey – helping them solve any issues related to their cancer diagnosis and care – whether connecting patients to mental health support, finding resources to ease the financial burden, arranging transportation to appointments, or answering any questions that may arise
The Requirements

The main requirement of this role is oncology nursing experience and a passion for serving cancer patients. More specifically, we are looking for someone with the following experience and qualifications:

  • Ability to work Eastern hours (8am-5pm EST)
  • 3+ years of oncology nursing experience
  • Mastery of common navigation and care coordination issues (registration, scheduling, clinical department navigation, insurance coordination, solving coverage issues, etc.)
  • Mastery of basic computer tools (Gmail, Zoom, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Preferred:
    Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
Compensation and Benefits
  • Starting Salary Range: $100-115k (based on skills and experience)
  • Dental and Healthcare (80% employer paid), Vision Insurance (100% employer paid)
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care FSA
  • Group Life and AD&D Insurance (involuntary with the option to buy up coverage)
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Remote-first work; live where you want within the region
  • All-company on-sites 2-3x per year (in Washington DC & Denver)
Our Culture & Values, In Brief

We’re building a company where what we do matters. The goal couldn’t be clearer – serve cancer patients. As the business grows, and the work becomes more complex, we need to become more, not less, committed to why we are doing this.

We have three company values, which guide our work:

  • Patients first, always: In everything we do, we put the cancer patient (and their families) first; we exist to serve them in their most urgent moments.
  • Respect for our responsibility: We strive, as a team, to respect the gravity of the responsibility we bear to patients, always acting and producing in a way that is worthy of the trust they have placed in us.
  • Kindness to and respect for others: We treat our teammates well, no exceptions. We are one team.
  • At Cancer Navigator, we believe a well-rounded and diverse team is a key to our success. We never discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, or marital, veteran, or disability status.
