Veterinary Radiation Oncology PCP

At Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (AVES), we’re growing rapidly—adding new doctors, expanding services, and launching departments—as we prepare to move into our brand-new, state‑of‑the‑art 45,000 sq. ft. hospital.

As part of our growth, we’re hiring for multiple technician and assistant roles across departments. We’re seeking highly skilled, self‑motivated, and team‑oriented professionals who are passionate about delivering exceptional care in advanced veterinary medicine.

  • Full Time (4 x 10 hour shifts) – Days/Hours TBD, Weekends required
General Overview

Patient Care Personnel (PCP) play a vital role in supporting the practitioners at AVES by assisting with both technical procedures and administrative tasks. PCPs are responsible for delivering compassionate, responsible care to all AVES patients, including monitoring, treatment, and detailed record‑keeping throughout hospitalization. Strong communication skills are essential for collaboration with doctors, Client Patient Coordinators (CPCs), Veterinary Assistants (TAs), and fellow Patient Care Personnel (PCP).

Daily cleaning and stocking of common areas are also required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patient Transport & Monitoring
  • Retrieve, transfer, and escort patients within AVES.
  • Assess and record vitals, food/water intake, urination, bowel movements, and alerts.
  • Round with staff and notify veterinarians of abnormal findings.
Treatments & Procedures
  • Induce, maintain, and monitor anesthesia; prepare patients and assist during procedures.
  • Administer IV fluids and provide supportive therapy during and after procedures.
Catheter & Sample Management
  • Place and maintain urinary and IV catheters.
  • Collect blood and urine samples; perform lab tests.
General Support
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization: stock supplies, laundry, dishes, and patient walking.
  • Perform clerical tasks: document records, type, and manage phone system.
Other Duties
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Skills and Abilities
  • Perform TPR, Doppler blood pressure, SpO₂, EKG, and assist with CVP monitoring.
  • Calculate dosages, unit conversions, and drip rates; prepare and administer oral, topical, ocular, SQ, IM, and IV medications.
  • Assist with continuous rate infusions and maintain IV catheters.
  • Prepare IV fluids with proper equipment, labels, and additives.
  • Collect blood (peripheral and jugular) and urine (expression and cystocentesis).
  • Process and interpret lab tests: PCV/TS, BG, AZO, electrolytes, chemistries, CBC, heartworm, snap tests, blood typing, and cross matches.
  • Provide oxygen therapy (hood, nasal, cage) and assist with manual ventilation; intubate and support CPR efforts.
  • Apply administrative skills: word processing, forms, file maintenance, dictation, transcription, email, and client/patient record management.
  • Knowledge of common drugs, side effects, controlled substances protocols, and clinic procedures to streamline patient care.
  • Demonstrate social perceptiveness, adapting approach to patient and team needs.
About you
  • Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVT) or experienced Veterinary Assistants with at least 2 years of experience, dedicated to providing outstanding client service and excellent patient care.
  • Prior experience in Emergency and specialty hospital is preferred.

  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
