Job Description & How to Apply Below
** About the Lab
** The Torii lab studies how functional tissue patterns are formed during plant development. We have uncovered key genes, regulatory networks, and signal transduction pathways underpinning the patterning and differentiation of stomata, cellular valves that support our life and sustenance. We are currently expanding our biochemical, biophysical and structural approach to address the key questions —work that has broad implications for agricultural sustainability in a changing climate.

* The potential, when applicable, to contribute to authorship on scientific manuscripts
** What You’ll Do
**** Protein Biochemistry / Structural Biology
*** Express, purify, and refold recombinant proteins from
* E. coli*, yeast, cell cultures, and/or plants
* Perform protein–protein interaction assays such as Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP), yeast two-hybrid (Y2H), Biolayer Interferometry (BLI), and isothermal calorimetry (ITC)
* Conduct gel electrophoresis (DNA and protein) and immunoblotting
* Carry out small molecule or ligand-binding assays and enzyme activity assays
* Support protein structural analyses (e.g., protein/peptide NMR) and proteomic sample preparation
* Assist with molecular cloning (plasmid construction, PCR-based genotyping) and basic plant care
** Laboratory Operations and Management
*** Perform daily operational functions alongside the PI and other researchers
* Maintain efficient lab practices and standard operating procedures
* Organize and track research materials, including cells, seeds, and clones
* Manage inventory, order supplies and equipment, and coordinate vendor relationships

* Participate in regular lab meetings and contribute to process improvement discussions
* Evaluate new materials, methods, and equipment for potential implementation
* Coordinate lab use of UT Austin core facilities (e.g., DNA sequencing, greenhouse services)
** What You Bring
**** Education
* ** Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, plant biology, genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related field required
* Advanced degree in a relevant field welcome
** Experience
* ** Demonstrated experience performing research in molecular biology, plant biology, or biochemistry within an academic setting required
* Experience with genotyping, protein expression/purification, molecular biology, and/or microscopy preferred
* Experience in genomics, transcriptomics, or bioinformatics considered a strong plus
* Previous lab management or operational experience in an academic environment preferred
