Job Details

PhD received within the past 3 years. This is a temporary training position renewable annually for a maximum of five years based on performance review, progress toward research goals, and continuation of funding.

Purpose

Carry out research in RNA biology and novel reverse transcriptase, with RNA‑seq, diagnostic, and genome engineering applications.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent research in RNA biology, RNA analysis, and RNA diagnostic and medical applications using tissue culture, recombinant DNA, biochemical assays, nucleic acid purification and analysis, gel electrophoresis, bacterial growth, RNA and DNA isolation, PCR, RT‑qPCR, reporter assays, protein expression and purification, in vitro mutagenesis, RNA sequencing, and data analysis.
• Provide instruction, assistance, and mentoring to graduate students.
• Write manuscripts and assist in the preparation of reports, abstracts, manuscripts, and proposals. Make presentations at lab meetings and other meetings.

Required Qualifications

PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a closely related field received within the past 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong record of research productivity in the above fields.

Salary Range

$58,744 + depending on qualifications

Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) subject to position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Optional Retirement Program (ORP) for 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
