The Orthopaedic Value-Based Health Care Fellow supports faculty in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care, primarily within the Musculoskeletal Institute at UT Health Austin. This one-year fellowship is designed for medical students and focuses on research, strategy, and clinical exposure related to value-based care delivery models.
Responsibilities- Develop and refine research protocols, manage IRB submissions and compliance.
- Collect and analyze patient-reported outcomes and patient data.
- Prepare abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts. Disseminate research findings to internal and external audiences.
- Recruit patients and serve as the patient-reported outcome measure facilitator. Supervise volunteers and ensure data integrity.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, attend business strategy meetings, and coordinate with clinical and administrative teams.
- Conduct literature reviews, enter and analyze data, and assist with grant applications.
- Attend national conferences and symposia; support onboarding of new research volunteers and participation in departmental recruitment efforts.

Accepted to or enrolled in a U.S. medical school (MD or DO track). 1 year of relevant research or clinical experience. Strong critical thinking and communication skills. Basic understanding of statistics. Ability to work independently and in teams. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsCompletion of core clinical clerkships. 2 years of research experience with publications. Demonstrated interest in value-based health care. Proficiency in Spanish. Experience with digital health tools and analytics. CITI Program certification for human subjects research.
Salary Range$35,568.00
