The opportunity

As an R&D Wafer Logistics Technician within our Process R&D Team, you will be integral in helping to drive the mission of our Austin R&D facility. Our team is dedicated to developing the processes essential for eyepiece fabrication in augmented reality displays. A person in this role will work in daily cooperation with other members of the Process R&D team, process integrators, and materials group staff.

The role focuses heavily on incoming substrate assignments, in-fab inventory/sample tracking, label management, parent/child lot relationship management, and shipping logistics. This team member will support Magic Leap’s core technologies in nano patterning and critical downstream processes for the fabrication of high-quality eyepiece displays for AR and other smart glasses applications. As part of this role, the technician will also provide metrology support and have the opportunity to engage with multiple processes that drive cutting-edge R&D prototype projects using both internal Magic Leap and external vendor tooling.

What you’ll do

  • Work with process integrators and the materials team to assign substrates and subsequently track samples during processing through the R&D cleanroom facility.
  • Execute lot splits/merges and manage child/parent lot relationships through the internal tracking system to enable clarity for process and metrology team members.
  • Manage the lot labeling scheme and ensure proper documentation for process history audits.
  • Own all aspects of sample physical inventory tracking inside the cleanroom and support final reconciliation of documentation for external and internal deliverables.
  • Support process engineers with sample measurements and metrology data coordination/archiving
  • Keep detailed records and present data and images in a small group setting
  • Work on-site primarily in a cleanroom environment
  • Provide clear communication regarding project status
  • Maintain flexibility in work schedule to accommodate time-sensitive projects

The experience you bring

  • 3+ years of professional experience in nano fabrication, semiconductor processing, or similar
  • Associate degree, applied science/engineering certification, or equivalent relevant experience in an applicable field. We are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
  • Understanding of fab process flow concepts and previous exposure to detailed sample lot tracking
  • Experience communicating material status to engineering staff or management.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, JIRA tracking,and table functions (joins/splits)
  • Hands-on experience running manual wafer-based processes and metrology equipment
  • Familiarity with cleanroom protocols and best practices for maintaining sample cleanliness
  • Be able to work on multiple projects in parallel while effectively communicating project status in verbal and/or written formats.
