Job DetailsThe University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD) is a state‑accredited police agency serving the UT community 24/7. UTPD includes investigative, K‑9, bicycle patrol, and a 911 Dispatch Center. This role is open to current UTPD commission officers and external candidates with a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement peace officer’s license.

- DP1-Personal History Statement
- Federal Criminal Background Check and Investigation
- UT System Police Physical Fitness Test
- Drug Test
- Psychological Exam
- Polygraph Exam (waivable if candidate holds an active federal security clearance and active TCOLE license)
Upon hiring, applicants must complete the UTPD lateral Field Training Program.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full‑time basis without sponsorship.
Responsibilities- Conduct proactive patrols or fixed post duties to protect campus property, maintain peace, suppress disturbances, and investigate criminal activity.
- Use independent and discretionary judgment within law, Board of Regents rules, and department policies.
- Detain and arrest offenders where authorized by law.
- Operate equipment including firearms, restraints, less lethal weapons, vehicles, communications, and surveillance devices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of a TCOLE‑approved Basic Peace Officer Course and certification exam.
- Pass the UT System Physical Fitness Test.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Clean criminal history (no felonies or misdemeanors above Class C in the last 10 years).
- Stable work history and clear oral and written communication.
- Clearance through a thorough background investigation.
- Creditable testimony in court.
- Valid Class C driver's license; non‑resident Texas drivers must obtain a Texas license within 30 days of residency.
- Attention to detail in forms and documentation.
- Minimum 2 years of law enforcement experience in a department of 100+ officers.
- 60+ college credits from an accredited institution.
- Experience in higher education or equivalent environment.
- Experience with communication equipment.
- Bilingual.
- Existing TCOLE Basic Peace Officer Certification.
Class C driver’s license required; furnish a current three‑year driving record. Non‑resident applicants must obtain a Texas license within 30 days.
Salary Range$68,626 plus one year of service credit for every four years of prior law enforcement experience.
Working Conditions- Uniforms and/or PPE furnished.
- Work in all weather and extreme temperatures.
- Exposure to chemical fumes, biohazards, electrical and mechanical hazards.
