PurposeThis position leads crews and coordinates onsite workers for the construction, installation, and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure. Responsibilities include assisting with daily planning, assigning tasks, ensuring safety compliance, interpreting blueprints and work orders, collaborating with other departments and contractors, troubleshooting, performing craft‑specific work, training team members, operating equipment, maintaining quality control, and completing supervisor‑assigned duties.
Responsibilities- Lead full‑time employees and contractors on the job site.
- Relay instructions, scheduling and assign work in the absence of the supervisor.
- Inspect completed work.
- Perform work typical of the craft and/or job classification of those workers in the group (placing fiber and copper cable through manhole and tunnel systems, splicing, troubleshooting and testing copper and fiber, etc.).
- Inspect work area for protection/including safety hazard warnings.
- Assist supervisor with creating estimates.
- Enter time on work orders.
- Operate a UT vehicle and maintain an acceptable driver rating as established in Policy UTS
157. - Perform other related functions as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least three years’ experience in leading Outside Plant crews.
- At least five years’ experience in maintenance and repair of telecommunications crafts trade (placing outside plant cable, fiber optics, copper cable, splicing/terminating, working with cable air pressure).
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and in construction areas of new buildings or renovated areas of existing buildings.
- Ability to read and understand safety placards and follow OSHA rules and regulations.
- Must be available for after‑hours work and coordination effort.
- Completion of related technical courses.
- 5+ years of experience with troubleshooting and splicing fiber optic cables.
- 5+ years of experience with troubleshooting and splicing copper cables.
5+ years of experience with troubleshooting and repair of pressurized cable plant. - Experience with creating cable certification reports.
- Experience with creating estimates.
- Experience with Pinnacle.
This job requires a Class “C” driver’s license. The applicant must provide a current three‑year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
Salary Range$65,000 + depending on qualifications

Monday – Friday 6 am – 4:30 pm (four 10‑hour days). Occasional overtime may be required.
