Provide basic landscaping work, performing semi‑skilled grounds maintenance tasks to maintain the health and appearance of the campus landscape.
Responsibilities- Safely operate landscaping equipment, including riding mowers, tractors, loaders, sweepers, push mowers, string trimmers, cultivators, edgers, and other tools necessary for proper landscape care.
- Install, replace, and maintain campus landscape to university standards—including turf, shrubs, and hardscape construction—while reporting conditions that may pose safety hazards.
- Irrigate new and existing landscape (turf, trees, shrubs) to maintain plant health, comply with water restrictions, perform or report minor irrigation repairs, and assist with installing small irrigation systems.
- Collect litter, empty trash receptacles, and keep university properties neat and orderly.
- Perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment and power tools, maintain preventive maintenance schedules, report repairs, clean equipment, monitor fluid levels, and assist with inventory of supplies.
- Maintain and clean a university vehicle, ensuring a satisfactory driver’s rating.
- Follow written and oral instructions, maintain the work schedule set by the supervisor, complete weekly electronic time reports and other UT electronic forms, and work independently or as part of a team across university locations.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), follow safety rules, and promote safe practices.
- Perform other related functions as assigned.
- High school graduation or GED.
- One year of experience in maintenance or operation of commercial‑sized landscape equipment (tractors, riding mowers).
- One year of experience in landscape maintenance or construction.
- Effective communication with co‑workers, office staff, and the university community.
- Stable work history, strong work ethic, punctual attendance.
- Ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work under adverse conditions (weather, dust, noise, heights, fumes).
- Class C driver’s license required; non‑Texas residents must obtain a Texas driver’s license within 30 days of establishing residency.
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- Degree or trade‑specific licensure or certification.
- More than one year of experience in landscape maintenance, construction, repair, or operation of commercial equipment (including riding mowers, tractors, loaders, sweepers).
- More than two years’ experience in landscape maintenance or construction.
$38,480 + depending on qualifications.
Working Conditions- Uniform/PPE furnished.
- All weather conditions; extreme temperatures.
- Chemical fumes, biohazards, electrical/mechanical hazards.
- Standard office, keyboard, manual dexterity, climbing stairs/ladders.
- Lifting, moving, and lifting/pushing up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to environmental conditions (dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, air pollution, loud noises).
40 hours – 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday–Friday. Hours may vary during the growing season, emergencies, and special campus functions. Overtime may be required with little to no advance notice.
