Job Summary & Responsibilities

Telecommunications Equipment Installer IV – Lead is responsible for the installation and maintenance of telecommunication equipment for carriers, including fiber, transport equipment, and critical infrastructure within central offices. The lead role provides high‑quality service in customer technical spaces such as data centers, mobile telephone switch centers, central office wire centers, and designated enterprise spaces.

Essential duties include:

  • Physically place, remove, or modify equipment, install superstructure components, and cut, file, drill, and modify infrastructure components.
  • Install data equipment cabinets, frames, servers, switches, routers, repeaters, bridges, gateways, multiplexers, and transceivers.
  • Make connections to BDFBs and fuse panels, route power and fiber optic cables, and set up power distribution units (PDUs).
  • Conduct testing and document performance characteristics of hardware and software; perform fiber light meter, CAT5/6, and volt‑ohm meter testing.
  • Resolve equipment and technical issues, read and interpret detailed specifications, blueprints, schematics, and MOPs.
  • Perform quality validation, complete operations paperwork, and oversee less experienced installers.
  • Act as a customer contact and interface with customers and supervisors regarding project status.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or college degree preferred.
  • Minimum six years of experience or equivalent technical skills in central office equipment / data center installation.
  • Clear understanding of AT&T, Telcordia, and/or Verizon Quality Standards.
  • Knowledge and experience with telecommunications equipment including Dell, HP, Arista, Ciena, Fujitsu, Cisco, Calix, Adtran, Nortel, Nokia, etc.
  • Background in fiber optic cable and AC/DC power installation and testing practices.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft programs, iOS and/or Android applications.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and documentation.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and basic power tool usage.
  • Strong organization, verbal and written communication skills, and problem‑solving skills.
  • BICSI certification is a plus.
Travel

Willing to travel, valid driver's license with acceptable driving record, reliable transportation, and ability to transport minor job‑related tools and equipment to work locations.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch, talk and hear. Must regularly lift 5–50 lbs, occasionally lift over 50 lbs, and have close, color, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment is usually moderate noise level, with moderate temperature and vibration limits typical for telecom installation sites.
