Acoustical Ceiling Mechanics and Apprentices

Job Description

Proman Skilled Trades is hiring experienced Acoustical Ceiling Mechanics and Apprentices for commercial construction projects across Austin. We are seeking dependable, detail-oriented trade professionals skilled in layout, grid stringing, and specialty panel installation for interior commercial build-outs.

Positions & Responsibilities

Apprentice / Helper

• Grid & Tile Assembly: Assist with measuring, cutting, and hanging tie wire, main runners, cross tees, and acoustical lay-in tiles.
• Site Preparation & Layout Support: Set up laser levels, chalk lines, and staging materials for grid layout.
• Material & Inventory Handling: Receive, unload, organize, and transport ceiling tiles, metal grids, and drywall materials safely across the jobsite.
• Tool & Equipment Maintenance: Support daily tool maintenance, staging equipment, power tools, scaffolding, and ladder safety setups.
• Jobsite Safety: Maintain a clean, hazard-free workspace and follow all local OSHA safety protocols.

Journeyman / Lead Mechanic

• Advanced System Installation: Precision layout and installation of standard drop grids, wood ceilings, specialty metal panels, linear baffles, demountable partitions, and acoustic wall panels.
• Blueprint & Technical Spec Literacy: Read architectural blueprints, structural drawings, and project specifications to perform precise laser layouts and grid alignment.
• Trade Coordination: Coordinate above-ceiling clearances and hangers with MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) trades.
• Flexibility & Problem Solving: Adapt to schedule changes and resolve complex structural layout challenges on site.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of commercial suspended ceiling installation experience.
• Strong commercial carpentry background and expert blueprint reading.
• Proficient in using laser levels, punch tools, crimpers, and metal cutting equipment.
• OSHA 10 certification (recommended).
• Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation around Austin.
• Ownership of hand & power tools.
• Physical stamina to stand, stretch, lift 50+ lbs, and work at elevated heights.
