System Firmware Test Development Engineer — Job Description
Contract: 1 Year
Location: Austin, TX (Met Center near Airport / B600 AMD Campus)
Hybrid Work: 3 days onsite mandatory
Top Must-Have Skills- Firmware and platform test development + validation
- Strong understanding of System BIOS / UEFI boot process
- Heavy automation focus; ability to create, execute, and maintain test procedures and Python-based test scripts
We are looking for a highly collaborative and motivated System Firmware Test Development Engineer to join AMD’s Firmware QA team. You will work closely with firmware architects and validation teams to understand new system-level features, design end-to-end test strategies, and develop robust automated test content.
You will play a key role in ensuring quality firmware delivery for AMD EPYC Server CPUs and Instinct GPUs
.
- Collaborate with architects and validation teams to understand new firmware features
- Develop platform-level end-to-end test flows
- Create detailed regression test cases aligned with automation and CI requirements
- Ensure test content is automation-friendly and scalable
- Execute tests, debug failures, and work with firmware developers to close defects
- Contribute to test strategy, coverage analysis, and cross-domain validation plans
- Support continuous improvements in test frameworks, coverage, and reporting
- 80% test content creation / 20% test execution
- Minimum 6+ years in firmware or software development/validation
- Strong understanding of pre- and post-silicon system test environments
- Debugging skills at SoC and system level
- Knowledge of server platform architecture and enterprise-class system features
- Prior embedded firmware experience
- Experience in one or more areas:
- ACPI, SMBIOS, BIOS concepts
- RAS features & validation
- DDR/memory subsystem validation
- Power/telemetry
- Platform security (TPM, Secure Boot, SPDM, ROT)
- Virtualization (SR-IOV, ACPI)
- High-speed I/O (PCIe, CXL)
- Sideband protocols (PLDM, MCTP, SPDM, RDE)
- Strong programming skills: C, C++, Python, Perl
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (preferred)
