The Credit Decisioning team is essential to every transaction at Affirm
, providing scalable underwriting decisions for integrated point‑of‑sale (POS) merchants and wallet platforms across the US, Canada, and the UK. This role is within the Credit Expansion sub‑team, which focuses on responsibly increasing access to credit while ensuring consistent decision‑making for our users. Working closely with cross‑functional partners in Engineering, Risk, Analytics, Product, and Capital, you will help launch products with significant business impact.

• Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery.
• Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade‑offs.
• Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in “keep the lights on” and on‑call efforts.
• Contribute to a sense of community on your team through growth and development activities such as participating in the interview process.

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems, and proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Knowledge of distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• A proven ability to transform business scenarios into solutions that integrate multiple software components, with clear, well‑tested, extensible code.
• Comfort with a large code base, debugging other engineers’ code, and providing constructive feedback through code reviews.
• Ownership of personal growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Either equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Base Pay Grade - L
Equity Grade - 6

Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. Pay is based on location, experience, and job‑related skills. Benchmarks are:

• USA (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $160,000 – $210,000 per year.
• USA (all other states): $142,000 – $192,000 per year.

Affirm is a remote‑first company. The majority of roles are remote and you can work almost anywhere within the country of employment. Some roles may require occasional on‑site presence.
