Position: Staff SW Engineer

Job Description
  • Design code and systems that touch 40% of the world population while influencing Visa’s internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability.
  • Collaborate multi-functionally to create design artifacts and develop best-in-class software solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings.
  • Actively contribute to product quality improvements, valuable service technology, and new business flows in diverse agile squads.
  • Develop robust and scalable products for a myriad of customers including merchants, B2B, and government solutions.
  • Mentor and participate in learning opportunities at a global or local scale.
  • Design, document, and implement new systems, enhancements, and modifications aligning with specifications, security, and Java best practices.
  • Interact with business and technical stakeholders to deliver high‑quality products that meet requirements, using the latest tools and technology.
  • Deliver zero‑defect code and ensure the team’s deliverables meet or exceed expectations; design and evolve scalable, fault‑tolerant web‑based applications.
  • Identify opportunities for product innovation and improvements to best practices, standards, and processes.
  • Contribute to an efficient development pipeline by leveraging CI/CD tools.
  • Develop and maintain back‑end services using Java and Spring Boot; design test automation, maintain CI/CD pipelines, and write automated test cases.
  • Present technical solutions, capabilities, considerations, and features in business terms.
  • Communicate status, issues, and risks effectively and timely.
  • Contribute to backend DB design, API creation, and front‑end UI development; manage backend operations and batch jobs.
  • Work independently to deliver software that conforms to Visa’s high standards of security, quality, performance, resiliency, and compliance.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 2+ years with an advanced degree, or 8+ years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of Generative AI and its application in the SDLC.
  • Java expert with experience in REST APIs and JSON.
  • Back‑end technologies: J2EE, JDBC, JMS, Spring, Spring Batch, Spring Boot, and vertex
    .
  • Front‑end expertise:
    Angular, React.js, Node.js.
  • Experience with Kafka, Redis, Hazelcast, or No

    SQL data stores.
  • Database experience:
    MySQL, DB2, Oracle.
  • Agile development with CI/CD (Git, Maven, Jenkins, Chef, Sonar, JUnit).
  • Strong oral and written communication, troubleshooting, analytical, and multitasking skills.
  • Team collaboration in a fast‑paced, high‑performance environment.
  • Curiosity and creativity to devise innovative solutions.

Skills You Bring:

  • Growth mindset and passion for technology.
  • Comfort pushing boundaries and ‘hacking’ beyond traditional solutions.
  • Expertise in Java or other general development languages.
  • Experience building and deploying GenAI services (Lang Graph, Lang Chain, A2A, MCP).
  • Continuous learning in Angular, React, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
  • Collaboration with Product, Test, Dev‑Ops, and Agile/Scrum teams.
  • Leadership in stakeholder engagement and design discussions.
  • Design and architecture, code reviews, and quality assurance.
  • Tool enhancement and automation leadership.
  • Mentorship and knowledge sharing.
