Overview
Join us as a Personal Trainer (Town Lake) at Greater Austin YMCA
. This position focuses on building a robust personal training client base, providing personalized fitness plans, and creating a supportive environment for all gym‑goers. The role includes floor monitoring, equipment orientation, and fostering a sense of community.
- Conduct personal training sessions with members as scheduled.
- Encourage members to learn about the benefits of exercise and weight training and provide information about other YMCA programs.
- Lead individual or group activities as designated by the Health & Wellness Director.
- Understand and carry out the YMCA Fitness Program objectives.
- Ensure equipment is clean and ready for use for the next session.
- Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.
- Lead by example the Y's mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.
- Act as an ambassador for the Y’s work and culture by sharing stories about the organization.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Monitor the floor to maintain a safe and motivating workout environment.
- Conduct equipment orientations and provide guidance to newcomers.
- Shine a spotlight on the benefits of exercise and inspire healthier lifestyles among members.
- High School graduate or GED equivalent.
- Minimum age 18.
- Current certification from a nationally recognized, NCAA‑accredited organization such as:
- AFAA – Athletics and Fitness Association of America Personal Fitness Trainer
- ACSM – American College of Sports Medicine
- ACE – American Council on Exercise
- Cooper Institute (grandfathered use of ACE)
- IFPA – International Fitness Professionals Association
- NASM – National Academy of Sports Medicine
- NSCF – National Council on Strength & Fitness
- NCCPT – National Council for Certified Personal Trainers
- NESTA – National Exercise and Sports Trainer Association
- NETA – National Exercise Trainers Association
- NFPT – National Federation of Professional Trainers
- NSCA – National Strength and Conditioning Association
- WITS – World Instructor Training Schools
- Team player with a positive, service‑oriented attitude.
- Highly organized, able to prioritize tasks and handle multiple assignments.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Fosters a culture of inclusion and belonging, leveraging diversity as a strength.
