Estimator in Training

Job Description

The Estimator in Training works closely with our Estimator to learn how to effectively diagnose and prepare all estimates for repair in an accurate, thorough, and profitable manner according to insurance partner and company guidelines. Additionally, the Estimator Apprentice is responsible for communicating the value Gerber provides, resulting in a high closed sales ratio.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure consistent execution of WOW (Wow Operating Way) plan.
  • Greet customers at repair drop‑off and build rapport.
  • Map damage with customers, including previous, current loss, and WOW opportunities.
  • Handle repair mapping, take initial photographs, and upload photos and notes to CCC One, along with arrival time and other details.
  • Notify production that a vehicle has arrived and place it in the production queue. Verify estimates during teardown.
  • Finalize estimates using the proper Repair Planning Template.
  • Work with the repair team to ensure notations on windshields are correct and complete. Prepare the final parts list.
  • Use the Promise Date Calculator to set the promise date. Call customers to review the estimate and promise date.
  • Update customers regularly in accordance with management standards.
  • Participate in and contribute to regularly scheduled production meetings.
  • Call customers whose vehicles will be completed the next day and schedule follow‑up.
  • Follow up with technicians after vehicle teardown and adjust the estimate if needed.
  • Assist insurance adjusters with damage reports and provide service to insurance claim re‑inspectors.
Education and/or Experience Required
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Must currently possess or successfully complete 16 I‑CAR units within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Preferred: 4–6 years related work experience. Photo‑imaging software experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literate; knowledge of Microsoft products preferred.
  • Good decision‑making ability and sound judgment.
Other Requirements
  • Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and crouch to provide an accurate estimate of a vehicle’s damage.
  • Must possess clear vision to provide an accurate estimate of a vehicle’s damage.
