What You'll Do
  • Operate the unit or area with a focus on safety, environmental responsibility, reliability, and productivity, aligned with business and site goals.
  • Supervise a reasonable number of people and be accountable for performance management, coaching, and career development.
  • Determine appropriate staffing and assignment of operators.
  • Ensure accurate and complete recording of asset utilization and losses.
  • Ensure safe and efficient execution of unit tasks and activities.
  • Manage operational overtime in alignment with unit requirements and constraints.
  • Lead and coach shift teams to meet business and plant goals.
  • Maintain operating discipline and ensure the Procedure Use Policy is followed.
  • Implement and ensure effectiveness of work processes, standard work practices, and operating discipline.
  • Create an environment that empowers the team and individuals.
  • Complete performance management requirements to maximize shift personnel contributions.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with operators.
  • Promote the CORE 4 principles within the unit.
  • Perform or support simple problem solving, formal root cause analyses, and the 4-step core problem solving principles.
  • Participate in root cause investigations as necessary.
  • Encourage shift team members to develop skills and knowledge to improve individual and unit performance.
  • Assist shift teams in value assessing tasks and activities.
  • Assist the Training Coordinator in developing skills and competencies for safe operator care and determine optimum staffing.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma
  • 15 years of operational experience within a chemical plant, with 3 years as a shift manager required
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience directly training operators
  • Knowledge and experience using Continuous Improvement Tools
