The IU West's Emergency Department (ED is a 25-bed unit that serves more than 30,000 patients each year. Nurses treat a diverse population of patients with compassion, care, and clinical excellence. Our team cares for a variety of patients including those with heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, sepsis, DKA, and orthopedic, gynecologic, urinary, surgical, neurological, and integumentary complaints. You will work with an interdisciplinary team of doctors, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), Unit Support Techs, and Paramedics.

Nursing

skills gained on this unit:
  • Critical care assessment skills
  • Training for Codes, STEMIs, and Strokes
  • Assist with bedside procedures such as: central line placement, conscious sedation, cardioversion, intubation, splinting, and joint aspirations
  • Fostering support for patients and family, including end-of-life care
  • Triage for patients of all ages
Unit Successes/Designations:
  • RNs with CEN certification
  • Highest patient experience for ED's in the system with similar volumes
  • Magnet designated facility

Shifts:
  • Full-Time | Days, Mid Shifts, and Nights
  • Part Time | Nights
Qualifications
  • Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN);
    Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • 1 year of Med/Surg experience preferred.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
