The Zeiss Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Programmer and Operator role is an on-site position located in Avon, IN. This role is responsible for programming Zeiss CMMs to inspect complex components, setting up fixtures and parts, and running inspection routines to verify dimensional accuracy. The position involves interpreting engineering drawings and CAD models, selecting appropriate measurement strategies, and analyzing inspection data to ensure parts meet specifications.
Day-to-day tasks include maintaining calibration and proper functioning of CMM equipment, documenting inspection results, and collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve dimensional issues. This team member also contributes to continuous improvement of inspection processes and supports adherence to quality standards and customer requirements.
- Strong experience with Zeiss CMM programming (e.g., CALYPSO) and operation, including setup, routine creation, and optimization of measurement strategies.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and CAD models, with the ability to apply dimensional inspection methods to complex aerospace and turbine components.
- Background in precision measurement and metrology, including use of hand tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges) and understanding of tolerances and statistical variation.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials commonly used in aerospace and power generation industries, and the impact of these processes on dimensional control.
- Experience working within a quality management system (e.g., ISO or AS9100), including documentation of inspection results, nonconformance reporting, and adherence to procedures.
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate dimensional issues, identify root causes, and support corrective actions.
- Competence with computer-based tools for data analysis and reporting (such as spreadsheets, databases, or specialized inspection software).
- Ability to work on-site in a technical, hands-on environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams and communicating clearly in both written and verbal forms.
