The Pre‑Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for general classroom management and supervision, which includes the personal care, hygiene, and positive discipline of the children. He or she plans and implements activities for children that help physical, social, and emotional growth and provides materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in active play. The Teacher prepares materials and classrooms for class activities and conducts all activities in a safe, organized, and productive manner.
The ideal candidate has a college degree in Early Childhood Education and or shared experience in a similar environment. Candidates must meet all state requirements for classroom teaching positions, must maintain state in‑service requirements, and must be physically able to interact with children on a day‑to‑day basis (stoop and bend, lift up to 30 pounds, etc.). Certifications in Child/Infant CPR and First Aid, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and good computer skills are required, but we will provide training for staff who do not hold these certificates.
Responsibilities- Develops, documents, and maintains a variety of fun and educational programs and activities
- Interacts with children at their level (stoop and bend) both physically and verbally throughout the day
- Evaluates and analyzes student learning
- Maintains records of students and their progress
- Observes and responds to children’s needs, emergencies, and conflicts that might occur in a classroom, on the playground, in bathrooms, or in common areas
- Helps children with personal hygiene and with keeping classroom clean and organized
- Manages supplies and ensures orderly work areas
- Meets with parents, staff, and administration and attends staff meetings and other events as needed / requested
- Performs other duties as assigned
- College degree in Early Childhood Education required
- Must meet all state qualifications for classroom teaching positions and maintain state in‑service requirements
- Excellent communication, customer service, and problem solving skills, including the ability to maintain composure under stress
- Able to interact with students of all ages and skill levels
- Highly professional and dependable
- Pleasant/friendly demeanor and an outgoing personality
- Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed
- Proficient computer and internet skills
