Routing Specialist – Willoway Nurseries, Inc.
Overview – This role focuses on building daily truck routes, negotiating carrier contracts, and ensuring accurate freight cost allocation for stone hauling and other freight.
Primary Responsibilities- Build and route daily truck loads using Pin Routes or equivalent systems.
- Apply per-customer freight costs, including stone hauling rates, to orders accurately.
- Assign carriers, haulers, or internal drivers based on cost and availability.
- Verify load completion or confirmations with carriers and brokers.
- Optimize routes using mileage, customer windows, and recovery calculations.
- Negotiate carrier contracts, set freight rates, and manage the Freight Program.
- Collaborate with sales, operations, and other departments to align shipping with business objectives.
- Handle escalated service failures or disputes with carriers/haulers.
- Review and renew contracts with carriers, brokers, and RFP partners each season.
- Determine billable rates for third-party trucking services.
- Act as liaison between sales, customers, dispatching personnel, carriers, and brokers.
- Oversee the Lakeshore RFP process, contract reviews, and routing and scheduling.
- Perform traffic administrative assistant duties including annual performance reviews.
- Support backup responsibilities for Administrative Assistant and Traffic Operations Supervisor.
- 3–5 years of related freight or transportation experience.
- Hands‑on experience with Pin Routes, Lakeshore Logistics, or similar route optimization software.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ERP and File Maker knowledge preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge of United States transportation regulations and safety practices.
Office‑based, 100% office location. Expected work hours vary by season:
Spring – 50+ hours per week with possible weekend work;
Summer/Fall – 40–50 hours;
Winter – about 40 hours. Average annual hours: 2,200.
Hourly rate: $29–$31 based on experience.
