Teacher of History (Maternity Cover)

Location: Colyton Grammar School Academy Trust Devon
Hours: Part-time, 0.6 FTE
Contract: Maternity Cover, September 2026 - March 2027

We are seeking to appoint a passionate, dedicated and motivated Teacher of History with excellent subject knowledge. You will combine academic knowledge and achievement with a passion for the subject to boost learning outcomes.

You’ll inspire students to achieve their full potential in the subject, using a passion for language to deliver high quality and engaging, interactive lessons that boost both written and spoken capabilities of students. A focus on learning and assessment and wider curriculum requirements is key, as well as the ability to utilise your knowledge to positively impact progress within the subject.

• Qualified Teacher Status (suitable for an ECT) or equivalent qualification
• Ability to teach History and/or Politics to GCSE and A-Level
• Evidence of reflective practice and willingness to learn and develop
• Secure ability in IT and ability to learn new skills as part of blended learning approach

• A genuine enjoyment of the subject and teaching young people
• A commitment to a pastoral role as a form tutor
• A willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities
• Scholarship – demonstrating a love of learning, using research / wider reading to further knowledge and skills as a teacher
• Service – commitment to improving opportunities and bettering lives of others in our community
• Humility – understanding that none of us is perfect and by thinking of others we can improve ourselves

  Can be completed during the school day where gained time allows, and any gained time can be spent at home.
• Professional Development: 2 INSET days at the start of the academic year and 2 at the end of an extended October half-term.
• CPD Pathways:
  Staff choose a CPD Pathway, including participation in NPQs.
