Project Controls Specialist
Join Commonwealth Fusion Systems on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy. We design and build commercially viable fusion power plants, partnering with policymakers, suppliers, and the broader energy industry.
Pay RangeBase salary $90,000 – $145,000 per year. Total compensation includes equity, benefits, and performance bonuses. Actual pay will depend on level, location, qualifications, and experience.
What You'll Do- Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Collaborate with technical project managers, engineers, supply chain, and production teams to define project requirements, establish WBS, and set realistic durations with logic ties.
- Analyze project scope and constraints to identify critical path activities, potential risks, and schedule impact.
- Conduct schedule analysis, including critical path, float, and “what‑if” scenarios to recommend mitigation strategies.
- Establish and monitor project cost baselines, budgets, and forecasts, tracking costs against budget and implementing cost control measures.
- Implement and manage earned value management (EVM) systems to measure schedule performance, cost performance, and schedule performance.
- Develop and maintain risk registers, monitor mitigation actions, and perform quantitative risk analysis (Monte Carlo simulations) to assess schedule and cost contingencies.
- Prepare regular project status reports with earned value metrics, schedule performance, cost forecasts, and key performance indicators; communicate project status and issues to stakeholders.
- Lead regular progress meetings with project teams to review schedule updates, address concerns, and resolve conflicts.
- Generate reports and dashboards to communicate schedule status, performance metrics, and cost forecasts to project stakeholders.
- Continuously improve scheduling and cost processes to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.
- Relevant degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- 3‑5 years of experience in scheduling management and cost control for complex projects and programs.
- Hands‑on experience as a project controller in aerospace, manufacturing, oil & gas, or other complex projects.
- Strong understanding of project management principles and methodologies.
- Proficiency in scheduling software (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project); other scheduling tools are a plus.
- Experience with cost management and financial analysis.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with earned value management (EVM).
- Willingness to travel when required or work required nights, weekends, or on‑call duties.
- Ability to type, stoop, or sit for extended periods of time.
- Work in a facility with industrial hazards, including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.
