Position: Best Start in Life Family Hub Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting children, young people and families? Do you enjoy working in a busy, customer-focused environment where no two days are the same?

We have an exciting opportunity for a BSiL Family Hub Assistant to join our Family Hub Service. As the first point of contact within the hub, you will play a key role in creating a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment for families, partners and any site visitors.

Working as part of a friendly team, you will provide information, administrative support and practical assistance to help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Family Hub while helping local families access the services and support they need.

1 x Full Time, centre based, position based in Aylesbury - 18 month Fixed Term/Secondment.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

About the role

As a Family Hub Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring visitors receive a warm welcome and can easily access the information, services and support available through the Family Hub.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Greeting visitors, managing sign-in processes and providing information and assistance.
  • Responding to telephone, email and face-to-face enquiries.
  • Signposting children, young people and families to relevant services and community support.
  • Supporting the safe, secure and effective operation of the Family Hub environment.
  • Assisting with room bookings, meetings, events and administrative tasks.
  • Maintaining accurate records and handling routine financial transactions where required.
  • Liaising with contractors, facilities teams and partner organisations.
  • Supporting volunteers and helping with promotional activities and community events.
  • Acting as a key holder and supporting opening and closing procedures.
  • Maintaining safeguarding awareness and escalating concerns appropriately. This is a fixed-location role based at the Family Hub, providing direct support to families, visitors and colleagues on site.

Fixed

As a ‘fixed’ worker, you’ll spend most of your time in the same location, which will likely be a fixed office or location where your role is performed. Typically, you’ll be based in the same location as the rest of your team, because you provide a particular service from that fixed location or need access to information there.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience working in a customer-facing environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage positively with a wide range of people.
  • Experience working effectively as part of a team to meet service standards and deadlines.
  • Good customer service skills and experience handling enquiries and resolving issues.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • The ability to use initiative, remain organised and manage competing priorities.
  • An understanding of the importance of safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
  • A commitment to delivering inclusive, high-quality services to local communities.
