A full time (10 PA) substantive post, as a Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with unselected general medicine on call (excluding acute cardiology and acute stroke) is available at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust based at both Wycombe Hospital and Stoke Mandeville Hospital (SMH). Part time will be considered.
The successful applicant will join 8 enthusiastic, friendly and forward-thinking Respiratory Consultants, who work in a cohesive unit. We are looking for someone with passion to be part of the lung cancer team carrying out diagnostics of bronchoscopic and pleural procedures and taking part in the cancer MDT as well as outpatient management, including our new lung screening service (Lung Health Check) due to start in April 2024.
We welcome those with skills to expand our current service for the future, including radial EBUS, pleural biopsy, IPC placement, and thoracoscopy. The successful candidate can be supported to develop skills during the job, from current consultants and Interventional Radiology.

Direct Clinical Care (8PAs), Supporting Professional Activities (1.25 of which 0.25 is ES to 2 juniors), subspecialist lead 0.5PA.
The successful candidate would be asked to take up a clinical lead role, with guidance from the current consultants. Some lead roles (e.g. Simulation Lead) have additional PAs attached to the role.
The successful candidate will be required to hold a valid Driving Licence.
A consultant colleague from another dept will be allocated to the successful candidate to act as a mentor.

Person SpecificationEDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS
- MBBS or equivalent GMC registerable qualifications and MRCP all parts
- oCCT in Respiratory Medicine and General Internal Medicine or within six months of achieving CCT at the time of the interview.
- Higher degree PhD or MD or equivalent- desirable
- General training in Respiratory Medicine to specialist level or equivalent
- Bronchoscopy skills to CCT level
- Pleural Ultrasound Skills to Level 1
- Ability to make decisions at consultant level
- 5 years WTE minimum
- Demonstration of strong leadership skills
- Good spoken and written English
- Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees
- Experience of routine clinical audit
- GMC Registration
- Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS and the Government's agenda for its modernisation
- Management training and experience
