The Role

As an Autism Support Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to deliver tailored support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). You will help create a structured, nurturing learning environment that promotes emotional regulation, communication skills, and positive behaviour for learning. Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils will be central to your role, ensuring every child feels understood, valued, and supported.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with autism
  • Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), EHCP targets, and behaviour support strategies
  • Encourage communication, social interaction, and emotional development
  • Adapt classroom resources and activities to meet individual learning needs
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the SEN team to monitor progress and outcomes
About You
  • Previous experience supporting children with autism or SEN is highly desirable
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A proactive and flexible attitude within a dynamic school environment
  • A genuine commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing
