Salary: £29,344 – £44,919
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SLD SEN Teacher to join a specialist school in Aylesbury from Easter 2026. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to support pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties, helping them develop vital communication, independence, and life skills within a structured and nurturing environment.
You will become part of a committed team that delivers personalised learning pathways, promotes meaningful progress, and ensures every learner feels safe, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver differentiated, person-centred lessons aligned with EHCP outcomes, focusing on communication, cognition, independence, and life skills
Develop and implement individualised learning plans tailored to each pupil’s developmental stage, sensory needs, and communication profile
Utilise a range of total communication methods, including Makaton, PECS, visual supports, and other AAC systems
Create a structured, predictable, and supportive classroom environment that encourages engagement, emotional regulation, and consistent routines
Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, behaviour specialists, and support staff
Monitor and assess pupil progress regularly through observation and evidence gathering to inform future planning
Build strong, positive relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies to provide cohesive support for each learner
Lead and mentor teaching assistants, promoting best practise in SEN support, communication, and behaviour management
Maintain accurate records and uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
Experience working with learners with SLD, complex communication needs, or developmental delays
Strong understanding of differentiated curriculum design, sensory learning approaches, and structured teaching methods
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and inclusive approach
Resilience, patience, and a commitment to supporting progress at all levels
Comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding policies and child protection procedures
